Fly Fishing Lessons for Individuals, Pairs, and Groups
Master the art of fly fishing with our private lessons that are tailored to your needs and skill-level. Mostly delivered on dry land and on local fields in summer months. Our lessons are typically meant for 1 to 2 people but we also offer customized classes for larger groups. We will provide all gear that will be used for the lessons but you can feel free to bring your own gear if you want. Please send us a message if you wish to book for a larger group. Our fly fishing lessons cover all aspects of fly fishing, including:
- How and where to use the various rod, reel and line types.
- Different types of knots for both tying on flies and fly line set up.
- Different types of fly patterns for our northern fish species or just general casting training to improve distance and delivery.
Pricing for fly fishing lessons:
- 1–Hour Lesson: $90 for a maximum of 2 people.
- 2–Hour Lesson: $150 for a maximum of 2 people.
- Lessons for more than 2 hours or 2 people: Send a message before booking.

Do you offer fly fishing trips or tours?
Yes, we organize guided fly fishing trips to some of the best spots in and around Yellowknife. These trips can be customized to your preferences, ranging from 4-hour excursions to multi-day adventures.
What types of fly fishing lessons do you offer?
We offer a variety of fly fishing lessons tailored to your skill level. Beginner lessons cover the basics of casting and will also include equipment knowledge and knot tying.
Interested in fly tying? We offer group classes in the winter months for all levels of fly tyers. Keep checking the website for when classes become available or send us an email requesting notification/s of upcoming classes.
What should I bring to my fly fishing lesson?
Dry land lessons will be conducted on grassy fields and clients are encouraged to bring weather appropriate clothing, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.
We have all the equipment necessary for your lessons, however if you have your own rods and reels, you’re welcome to bring those if you prefer. We will supply safety glasses to clients who do not wear sunglasses or eyeglasses.
How can I improve my skills and stay updated?
Regular practice and learning to cast in a field can be beneficial before heading out on to the lakes and allow you a better chance of success. We also recommend regularly practicing the techniques learned during our sessions, while keeping an eye on our website for tips and updates about flyfishing in Yellowknife.
What types of fishing equipment do you sell?
Our online store features a wide range of fishing equipment that are well suited to your fishing needs, including rods, reels, lines, baits, lures, and other fishing accessories.
What if you don't have the equipment I want to purchase?
We offer many product types and brands beyond what is currently listed on the website. If there is something specific that you are interested in, drop us a line and we will do our best to get it for you.
Do you ship products outside of Yellowknife?
Yes, we offer shipping across Canada! Shipping costs will vary based on the delivery location and the size of your order.
What is your return policy on purchased fishing equipment?
We accept returns within 30 days of purchase for most products, provided they are in unused and saleable condition with original packaging. Note that special orders are not eligible for refunds.
What is included in a fly fishing excursion?
We supply all fishing equipment required to make your experience enjoyable. Depending on the type of trip you choose, we supply the PFD’s, waders, boots, rods, reels, nets and tubes. Light snacks are provided for ½ day trips and a lunch is provided for our full day excursions. See our excursion packages for full details.
How long do fly fishing excursions typically last?
The duration of our flyfishing excursions can vary depending on the package chosen. We offer options ranging from 4 to 8 hour outings, allowing you to tailor your experience to fit your schedule and preferences.

Do I need an NWT Fishing License to go for an excursion?
Yes. This can be purchased online or at select stores in Yellowknife, prior to your fishing trip.
Do I need prior fly fishing experience for an excursion?
It is good to know how to cast before going on an excursion, however we are happy to work with beginners to ensure you have an enjoyable time on the water.

Are fly fishing excursions suitable for children?
Yes, fly fishing excursions can be a great outdoor activity for children. We offer family-friendly options and can tailor the experience to accommodate younger anglers, ensuring a safe and enjoyable outing for everyone.
We also have equipment suited for children to participate, and you can call us to confirm we have what you are looking for.
NB: While any child can participate in the fly fishing lessons, we usually recommend that kids who wish participate in fly fishing excursions should be at least 5 feet tall.
What types of fish can I expect to catch on a fly fishing excursion?
Yellowknife’s waters are home to a variety of fish species, including trout, whitefish, and pike. The specific species targeted during your excursion will depend on factors such as the time of year and the location of the fishing trip.
Can I bring my own fly fishing equipment on the excursion?
